What is the purpose and meaning of life?

The answer, if you’ve seen Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, is 42. Ok, fine… I’m a nerd.

In reality, the purpose and meaning of life is to know God, love God, and serve God. This is because God gives life and gives life meaning. The goal of life is to grow in holiness, to grow in relationship with Jesus Christ. The goal of life is to get to Heaven, to share in a life of love with God for all eternity.

I believe in God. I believe that He is knowable by human reason alone. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Eternal Word of God Incarnate, born of the Virgin Mary. He handed Himself over to death as a willing and perfect sacrifice to die for the redemption of our sins. He is our Savior. I believe that He founded His Catholic Church upon the Apostles, especially upon the Rock, St. Peter. The bishops and Pope of today are the successors of the Apostles.

My hope is the promise of Heaven. My faith is in Jesus Christ, directed to the Father, by the power and working of the Holy Spirit. And the source and summit of my life is perfect love, especially present to us in the Holy Eucharist. I am entirely imperfect, but I have a perfect Savior. I believe in His power and grace to make a difference in the lives of all.

I am open to dialogue with others of differing viewpoints. I believe that dialogue is preferable to conflict, but I will not back down from conflict when truth and charity dictate it. Always feel free to comment on my posts, but please keep it charitable.

I am politically an independent/moderate. I lean towards being conservative on almost every issue, but I think that an authentic liberal viewpoint provides a necessary critique to keep us moving towards the common good. There are more than two viewpoints to every issue. Though, some issues have only one authentic viewpoint, especially when it comes to life issues.
